SHANKSVILLE, Pa (WJAC) — Friday’s 25th anniversary ceremonies at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville were filled with hundreds of visitors, including U.S. Senator Dave McCormick.
During his visit to Somerset County, Sen. McCormick toured the grounds of Patriot Park, which is located directly across the street from the Flight 93 Memorial, paying tribute to all those lost on 9/11.
Sen. McCormick says that as a country, it is important for Americans to honor those brave men and women who sacrificed themselves to save countless innocent lives by stopping the hijackers from reaching their intended target in Washington D.C.
The senator says the 40 passengers and crew of that United Airlines flight exemplified what it means to be courageous when they stormed the terrorists in the cockpit.
But he says just moments before that extraordinary act of heroism, they also did something very American -- they took a vote.
